Head coach: Fred Lau (5th season, 7th overall) Offensive coordinator: Allyn Spencer Defensive coordinator: Eliott Boneza
Players to watch: OL/DL Elijah Cortez (6-1, 285, Sr.), OL/DL Jake DeLuz (5-10, 250, Sr.), QB Aka Spencer (5-8, 150, Jr.), RB/DB Justin Pascua (5-9, 165, Sr.), OL/DL Lopaka Akau (6-0, 275, Jr.)
Coach's words: "This season we have very good team size and speed. The players have a very good, positive attitude and their expectation is to win the BIIF Division II title." - Fred Lau
SL's take: The Dragons are back in the Division II ranks after testing the waters in D1 two years ago. They dropped five of their first six to start out their 2019 campaign and ended the season on a four-game losing streak. Honokaa's struggles were evident on both sides of the ball as it averaged a meager 12.6 points per game, while allowing 36.7 points per contest. On the season, the Dragons were shut out on five occasions and outscored by their opponents by a combined margin of 404 to 139. There is reason to be optimistic this fall, however, as Honokaa will play exclusively against D2 opponents and it should be among the more physical teams in its division. Honokaa's trio of 250-pound-plus linemen in Cortez, DeLuz and Akau provides both the OL and DL with size and experience. In a one-point loss to Keaau in 2019, Pascua ran for 115 yards, including a 61-yard TD, on just six carries.
