Aiea Na Alii

Head coach: Wendell Say (29th season)
Co-offensive coordinators: Say, Zac Mauga
Defensive coordinator: Chris Taiese

Players to watch: DT Tumama Auvaa (5-10, 240, Sr.), LB Lynkcyn Amato (5-8, 175, Sr.), LB Chayson Lopez (6-2, 220, Sr.), DE Macen Halemano (5-9, 190, Sr.), DB Windsor Asing (5-9, 160, Sr.)

Coach's words: "You can expect a lot of excited players out there, happy to be back on the football field after a one-year layoff. This group of players are a talented group that played Leilehua a couple years ago for the (OIA) JV titles. We have lots of coaching-up to do because they have been out for so long, but it is good to be back. Our division again looks to be very competitive and we should be fine as long as we stay healthy. Every team is unknown to us because of the lack of a season last year and with new coaching changes and players up from the JV ranks, it is hard to say which teams are the most experienced. We just have to look at everyone as a contender and take it one week at a time." - Wendell Say

SL's take: Na Alii saw a slew of seniors graduate in the spring, leaving behind a team that is largely inexperienced at the varsity level. However, the JV squad reached the OIA championship game back in 2019 and Say is banking on players from that team to lead the way this fall. The most seasoned group is the defensive line, which will be anchored by the duo of Auvaa and Sila Unutoa (6-3, 300, Jr.) at the tackle positions, while Halemano will serve as a complementary edge rusher. Logan Rouse, a 6-foot-4 junior, provides length at the opposite DE spot. Amato and Lopez lead the linebacking corps, while Asing, a ball-hawking safety, is the lone senior in a young secondary, although Pearl City-transfer Bishop Foumai (5-7, 140, Jr.) has played well at one cornerback spot. The offensive line is large, specifically LT Trace Ader (6-4, 300, So.), OG Preston Taumua (6-4, 280, So.) and RT Max Rouse, the 6-foot-4 brother twin brother of Logan. The group will be entrusted to protect a talented dual-threat QB in Ezekiel Olie (6-0, 195, So.). In addition to a strong arm with an easy release, Olie can also make defenses pay with his feet. However, he'll have a receiving corps made up exclusively of sophomores and juniors. SB Geronimo Ulgaran (5-4, 150, Jr.) proved to be the top playmaker among the offensive skill positions for the JV team as a freshman two years ago. Na Alii will be looking to build upon a successful recently-completely pylon (7 on 7) season, but will have to do so as road warriors with their home field unavailable to host games this fall due to an ongoing construction project.
