Kapolei's Kamachi to play in Area Code Games






Kapolei multi-sport athlete Trey Kamachi has been invited to play in the Area Code Baseball tournament Aug. 5 to 11 at Blair Field in Long Beach, Calif.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed pitcher will represent the Cincinnati Reds, who have high school players from the Rocky Mountains area and Hawaii.

Other Major League Baseball teams sponsoring Area Code team are the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals. The games will be observed by pro scouts and college coaches.

Kamachi was 5-3 with a 0.85 earned run average with 32 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched for the Hurricanes this past season.

Kamachi also is a quarterback on the football team. He will miss the Hurricanes first preseason game Aug. 12 against Pearl City.
