Rivera's three picks helped lift Pearl City over Kalani

Even on a night where 80 pass attempts were uncorked through the night sky at Bino Neves Stadium, the three balls caught by Timothy Rivera were noteworthy, mostly because he doesn't even play offense.

The 5-foot-6 junior defensive back set the tone from the get-go for the Chargers, taking back an interception twenty yards for six, on the first play from scrimmage in the game.

"My coach said once I see the guy go for the bubble (screen), step up, either take the hit or go for the ball." remarked Rivera. "And I just went for the ball and it came my way."

Rivera also picked off two more passes on the night, one of them returned for 67 yards to set up another Chargers' score, and nearly added another two more interceptions on passes that were in his hands and dropped.

"I just took every opportunity as it was my last play." said Rivera. "My defense we come hard everyday, practice hard, just took it like it was our last game."

Defensively, Pearl City racked up five interceptions and four fumble recoveries in a 40-30 win against Kalani, posting their fifth straight win after an 0-4 start, keeping its postseason hopes alive with one week remaining in the regular season.
