Rich Miano named Kaiser football head coach

Former University of Hawaii assistant football coach Rich Miano has been named head coach at Kaiser High School, school athletic director Rodney Iwasaki confirmed Friday night.

Miano, a 1980 Kaiser graduate, played in 135 NFL games during a 10-year professional career. He walked on at UH and earned All-Western Athletic Conference as a defensive back in his final two seasons. Miano was on the Warrior staff for 13 years, including the last four as associate head coach.

"Rich Miano will be our next head coach," Iwasaki told ScoringLive at the Oahu Interscholastic Association Awards Dinner.

Miano, 49, emerged as the top candidate from a pool of seven applicants.

Kaiser had been seeking a head coach since the dismissal of Will Lobendahn, who was let go earlier this year after two seasons at the helm for the Cougars.
