Two football state champions to invade Oahu

Two defending state champions will play Hawaii teams in non-league football games this season.

Four-time Nevada 4-A champion Bishop Gorman will play Saint Louis School, Sept. 1 at Aloha Stadium.

The game is being billed as the Crusader Football Invitational and will serve as a fund-raiser for the football program, Saint Louis coach Darnell Arceneaux said.

Bishop Gorman was ranked No. 5 in the nation in USA Today's final poll last season.

Meanwhile, Alaska state champion Service will return to play Leilehua on Aug. 10 in a rematch of last year's Fire & Ice Bowl. It is part of a doubleheader that will pit Punahou against another Alaska team, West Anchorage. Service and Leilehua played to a 34-34 tie.

The doubleheader will be broadcast on OC 16, said Dave Vinton, director of sports programming.

More details will be available later.
