ILH champ Punahou named top seed for D1 tourney


ILH regular season champion Punahou is the top seed for next week's New City Nissan State Boys Volleyball Championships, at Farrington and McKinley High Schools from May 2-4, then moving over to the Blaisdell Arena for the final day of the tournament.

The Buffanblu get a first round bye, along with second-seed Moanalua, third seed Kamehameha-Hawaii and fourth seed King Kekaulike.

First round action will get underway at 5:00 p.m. with Waiakea-Waipahu at McKinley and Baldwin-Pearl City at Farrington. In the second match of the night set for 7:00 p.m., Kalaheo will take on Kaiser at McKinley and Kamehameha-Kapalama will face Leilehua at Farrington.

In Division II, Hawaii Baptist was named the top seed and will take on OIA runner-up Kahuku in the 7:00 p.m. game at Kaimuki on Thursday. In other quarterfinal matches, second seed Seabury Hall will face Kohala at 7:00 p.m. at Kalani, third seed McKinley will take on Pahoa at 5:00 p.m. at Kalani and fourth seed Hawaii Prep will match up with Waimea at 5:00 p.m. at Kaimuki.
