Starr Johnson named head coach at Punahou

Punahou School announced today that Starr Johnson has been appointed head coach for girls soccer. Johnson has coached girls JV soccer at the School since 2006.

"I'm humbled to be part of a strong soccer tradition at Punahou, and excited to be coaching talented, motivated players at such a supportive school. It feels great to give back to a program and school that has made such a profound impact in my life," said Johnson, a 1998 Punahou School graduate. "Many coaches and players have helped bring soccer in Hawaii to a high level; I hope to continue providing opportunities for young women to grow and achieve their goals as players and people."

"We are thrilled to welcome Starr Johnson, who exemplifies the core values and beliefs we seek to instill in our students," said Athletic Director Jeaney Garcia. "We are confident that she will advance her players on and off the field, building model student-athletes and citizens."

Johnson was a four-year varsity soccer player at Punahou, capping her high school career with a state championship title. She also played and served as team captain at the University of Oregon. Johnson teaches high school social studies at Punahou School.
