All-O'ahu semifinals in DI; two Kaua'i teams in DII semis


 





Kylie Mitsuda scored in the 95th minute last night to lift No. 2 seed Moanalua past O'ahu Interscholastic Association rival Pearl City, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Girls Soccer State Championships.

Na Menehune improved to 11-0-3 and will face Interscholastic League of Honolulu runner-up 'Iolani (11-0-3) in tonight's feature 7 o'clock semifinal at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Pearl City (10-2-4) led 1-0 at halftime after Lauren Takai's goal in the 22nd minute. Casey Tabion tied it in the 71st minute and regulation time ended with the teams tied at 1-1. After the first scoreless overtime, Mitsuda knocked in the winning shot from close range in front of a crowded net.

Quarterfinals

'Iolani 1, Baldwin 0

Twyla Hamasaki's goal in the 31st minute proved to be the only score, despite the Raiders' constant attack that produced 33 shot attempts.

The Bears fell to 13-2.

Mililani 2, Kealakehe 0

Shyana Terukina scored in the 12th minute and Kristen Fujinaga followed with a penalty kick eight minutes later after a foul called in the penalty box.

The Waveriders fell to 14-1.

Kamehameha 5, Kamehameha-Maui 2

KS-Maui (13-2) took a shocking 2-0 lead after Lily Higashino's goal in the fourth minute and Julia Saffery's goal eight minutes later, with Saffery's goal rolling into an empty net after the ball took a high bounce over the goalkeeper's head.

But the Warriors from Kapalama stormed back, scoring three goals during a sevem-minute span late in the first half including goals by Tia Kinilau in the 29th and 34th minutes, followed by Carly Neal's goal in the 36th minute for a 3-2 lead.

Abcde Zoller then made it 4-2 in the 58th minute and Kinilau effectively sealed the victory with a goal 10 minutes later.

Konawaena 2, 'Aiea 1

Raisa Strom-Okimoto gave Na Ali'i (6-10) a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute, but the Wildcats (11-4-1) responded with goals by Kaulana Ruedy (52nd minute) and Lia Ruedy (66th minute).

Kapolei 1, Kaiser 0

Bianca Gonzales scored in the 51st minute for the Hurricanes, who improved to 10-4-1 after slipping past the Cougars (11-3-1).

DII

Quarterfinals

Mid-Pacific 4, Radford 2

Taylor Higa scored goals in the 3rd and 8th periods, and Julie Khil (13th minute) and Coby Yoshimura (23rd) added two more goals for the Owls (6-6-1).

Abigail Granger (61st minute) and Emily Irvoin (77th minute) helped make it 4-0 by halftime.

Hawai'i Prep 5, Makua lani 0

Five different players (Nanea Tavaris, Jessica Benioni, Bri Vallente, Katie Case and Meimei Nakamura) scored for Ka Makani, who improved to 14-1.

Kapa'a 3, Waipahu 1

Taylor Ochoa first started things with a goal in the first minute and Cassie Wilson made it 2-0 in the 20th minute as the Warriors improved to 5-3-2 and held off the Marauders (8-5).

Kaua'i 3, Kalaheo 2

Kiana Bowman scored the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute for the Red Raiders, who improved to 8-0-1 and denied the Mustangs (5-5-2).

Consolation bracket

Honoka'a 1, Leilehua 0

Allie Shiraki scored in the 20th minute for the Dragons, who improved to 9-7 and will face Kamehameha-Hawai'i (10-5-1) in tomorrow's 3 p.m. consolation final.

Leilehua's season ends at 4-10-1.

Kamehameha-Hawai'i 2, Seabury Hall 0

Kera Akiyama scored in the 34th minute and Sharayah Ah Chong added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute for the Warriors (10-5-1).

Seabury Hall's season ends at 3-8-4.
