The Red Raiders improved to 6-0 in the OIA's Eastern Division, while Farrington fell to 4-2.

The Govs are classified in the league's White (Division II) Conference, but had beaten three straight Red (DII) opponents entering last night's game.

Kahuku, meanwhile, won its fourth straight road game after victories at Moanalua on Jan. 2, Kalaheo on Tuesday and Kaimuki on Thursday.

"They were all tough crowds, too," said Johnson, a 5-foot-9 junior guard. "But now we know we can win on the road."

The Red Raiders broke out early, with a 3-pointer by Johnson capping a 10-1 run that put Kahuku ahead, 12-4, barely five minutes into the game. Johnson drained two more 3's by the end of the first period to help extend the lead to 20-10 heading into the second, then ended the half with a coast-to-coast layup two seconds before the buzzer to make it 38-21 at the break.

Johnson sank all four of his 3-pointers in the first half.

"One of those was from NBA range," Farrington coach Allan Silva said. "We had two guys (defensively) to protect inside and out, but we couldn't stop him. Amazing."

Johnson, whose previous season high was 17 points, said he was in the groove from the outset.

"When we go through our warm-ups, it feels the same," he said. "After I hit my first shot (during the game), I knew good things would happen if I kept shooting."

The Governors were able to narrow the gap in the third period after Red Raiders post Sam Ching picked up his fourth foul with 6:40 remaining, with Tyler Liana's layup capping a 12-2 run that cut the lead to 42-36 three minutes later.

But that was as close as they would get, as Koiva Tufaga hit a pair of layups to highlight an 8-3 spurt that ended the quarter with Kahuku ahead, 50-39.

The Red Raiders then put the game away with a 12-2 run to start the fourth period, as a short jumper by Bronson Beatty made it 62-41 with 4:16 left.

"Our offense is generated through our guards, and it makes it easier when they're scoring, especially since we were hurt inside with Sam in foul trouble," said Kahuku coach Darren Johnson, Kawe's father.

Mason Kuali'i-Moe added 11 points and Mikeli Fiso finished with 10 points for the Red Raiders. Mikey Kleman scored 24 points -- including four 3-pointers -- to lead Farrington and Chadey Callazo added 10 points.
