St. Francis-Merv Lopes Hoops Classic tips off today


Defending Division I State Champion Kamehameha and Division II winner Farrington headline the local field of contenders in this year's St. Francis-Merv Lopes Hoops Classic, which tips off today at Manoa Gym.

Other Hawaii teams competing in the 16-team field include Damien, Kahuku, Kailua, Kalaheo, Kamehemeha II, Kamehameha-Hawaii, Leilehua, Saint Francis, and Saint Louis.

Flying in from the mainland to complete the field are Amador Valley (Calif.), Brentwood (Calif.), Chetrermere (Can.), Mission Prep (Calif.) and Science Hill (Tenn.).

The Lady's Classic also gets started today in Manoa, with an eight-team field consisting of Christian Academy, La Pietra, Maryknoll, Punahou II, Radford, Saint Francis, University High and Humboldt (Can.).

Men's Classic (all games are at Old Gym unless specified)

Leilehua vs. Amador Valley - 9:30 a.m.
Farrington vs. Science Hill - 11:00 a.m.
Kahuku vs. Brentwood - 12:30 p.m.
Kamehameha-Hawaii vs. Mission Prep - 2:00 p.m.
Saint Louis vs. Kailua - 3:30 p.m.
Damien vs. Kamehameha II - 3:00 p.m. (New Gym, Court 1)
Kamehameha vs. Kalaheo - 5:00 p.m.
Saint Francis vs. Chetrermere - 6:30 p.m.

Lady's Classic (all games at New Gym, Court 1)

Radford vs. Christian Academy - 9:00 a.m.
La Pietra vs. Humboldt - 10:30 a.m.
Saint Francis vs. University - 12:00 p.m.
Punahou II vs. Maryknoll - 1:30 p.m.
