The Spartans outscored the Govs 14-3 in final period to post a 49-38 win in the opening round of the Punahou Invitational.

Maryknoll's Tobias Schramm led all scorers with 21 points in the win.

Farrington, playing in their second game of the day after closing out their run at the 'Iolani Classic in the 9:00 a.m. consolation game, battled back from a 28-23 halftime deficit to tie the score at 35-all at the end of the third quarter.

Chadey Callazo had 9 points for the Govs in the loss.


Punahou 85, Walnut Grove 33

Three Buffanblu players scored in double-figures as host Punahou rolled to a 85-33 win over Walnut Grove (Canada).

Sean Gruebner and Nick Velasquez scored 11 points each, and DeForest Buckner chipped in 10 more to lead Punahou, who will take on Kahuku, a 61-56 winner over Kalaheo, in tomorrow night's 7:30 p.m. semifinal matchup.

Punahou led 45-21 at halftime and 67-27 after three quarters.

Paul Getz led Walnut Grove with 10 points.
