'EWA BEACH - Brock Asher's bat backed the two-hit pitching of Kaulana Wong and 'Aiea beat Campbell, 4-1, Thursday in O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red West baseball at the Sabers' field.

The series continues 3 p.m. Saturday at 'Aiea.

Asher had half of Na Alii's six hits, batting 3 for 4 with a double and triple. He scored twice, drove home a run and stole two bases, including home.

He provided enough offense to support the efficient pitching of right-hander Wong, who allowed a run on a wild pitch and two singles, while striking out three with no walks. He had 13 grounders net 14 outs (one was a double play).

"We have a good defense," Wong said. "I'm not a strikeout pitcher. I just make them roll over and hit grounds ball like they did today."

The Campbell hitters could not muster any good swings against Wong's arsenal. Cole Nagamine had the hardest-hit ball, a grounder off the third baseman for a single. The Sabers' other hit was a soft, opposite-field line single to right by Jaris Flora.

"He was throwing his off-speed for strikes, tying the hitters up," 'Aiea pitching coach Dustin Spencer said. "

"He was getting first-pitch strikes and he was around the plate the whole game," 'Aiea coach Ryan Kato said. "He forced contact. The most impressive thing today was our defense."

Campbell starting pitcher Flora allowed four runs, six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

Na Alii scored twice in the top of the first inning. Asher led off with a single to center and went to third on Tyler Agtang's single to right. Asher scored on a delayed double-steal with Agtang stealing second, where he later scored on Wong's line single to left-center to make it 2-0.

The Sabers got one back in the bottom of the first. Donato Gallano was hit by a pitch, went to second and third on back-to-back infield ground outs and scored on a wild pitch to pull to 2-1.

'Aiea added a run in the third when Asher led off with a triple to right and an out later, scored on Taylor Taliulu's sacrifice fly to center, making it 3-1.

'Aiea scored in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Asher.
