Kamehameha players celebrate a victory over Mililani.

WAIPAHU -- Jason Richards scored the tying goal in the 80th minute and Kamehameha out-shot Mililani in penalty kicks, 3-2, last night for a thrilling 2-1 victory in the JN Automotive Group/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Boys Soccer State Championship quarterfinals.

The No. 1 seed and Interscholastic League of Honolulu champ Warriors improved to 8-1-2 in the regular and postseason and will face O'ahu Interscholastic Association runner-up Kaiser (13-2-2) in today's 5 p.m. semifinal at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Complex.

Jake Sagami scored in the 42nd minute off an assist from JB Cunningham to give the Trojans (12-3-2) a surprising 1-0 lead, but Richards tied it in the final minute of regulation on a laser shot from about 40 yards out when Mililani goalkeeper Tyler Wilson slipped and fell in a save attempt as the ball sailed over him and into the net.

After two scoreless overtime periods, Kona Gaison -- Kamehameha's fourth shooter -- broke a 2-2 penalty kick tie with a left-footed shot into the left side of the net. The Trojans then failed to convert on their fifth attempt, sealing the victory for the Warriors.

Mililani will face No. 4 seed and Maui Interscholastic League champion King Kekaulike (8-4-1) in a 3 p.m. consolation bracket game at Field 7.
