WAIPAHU -- Chantel Abregano scored in the 99th minute yesterday afternoon to lift Kahuku to a stunning 1-0 victory over Moanalua in the first round of the JN Automotive Group/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Girls Soccer State Championships.

The Red Raiders, who finished sixth in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association, improved to 8-6-3 in the regular and postseason and will face No. 4 seed and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champ Hilo (12-0-2) in today's 1 p.m. quarterfinal at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

The OIA runner-up Na Menehune fell to 13-2-2 and into today's 1 p.m. consolation bracket game against Kaiser (8-6-2) at Field 7.

After a scoreless 80-minute regulation and 10-minute first overtime, Kahuku had a chance to end it in the 92nd minute when Zhane Santiago broke free for a one-on-one situation with the goal keeper. But her shot from about 15 yards out sailed right.

Later, Moanalua had a direct kick opportunity from about 20 yards out on the left flank, but the line drive shot went over the crossbar.

Then in the 99th minute, Santiago had the ball near the end line and pushed it up to Abregano on the left flank about 10 yards out. Her shot glanced off a Menehune defender and into the lower right corner of the net.

The BIIF runner-up Waveriders fell to 8-3-2 and into today's 1 p.m. consolation bracket game against Kapolei (9-4-3) at Field 8.

Krystal Pascua scored two goals and freshman Shaye Villanueva added another -- all in the first 30 minutes -- for the Raiders, who improved to 10-1-2 and will face No. 3 seed and Maui Interscholastic League champ Baldwin (15-0-1) in today's 3 p.m. quarterfinal at Waipi'o Stadium.

Pascua scored in the sixth minute on a hard shot from about 20 yards out into the lower right corner of the net. Villanueva made it 2-0 in the 21st minute on a point-blank header from the back post off a nice cross by Alyssa Kim.

Pascua, a senior who signed a national letter of intent on Feb. 2 to play for the University of Hawai'i next season, then scored on an almost identical header off a similar cross from Kim in the 30th minute.
