BIIF D1 tourney starts Friday


The Big Island Interscholastic Federation will crown champions in Division I and II this weekend.

In Friday's Division I semifinals at Konawaena, West 2 Kealakehe plays East 1 Waiakea at 6 p.m. and West 1 Konawaena takes on East 2 Kea'au at 7:30 p.m. The winners advance to Saturday's championship and secure the league's two Division I state tournament berths. The losers are done for the season.

In Division II first-round games Wednesday night, Honoka'a beat Pahoa, 60-24, and Ka'u beat Kohala, 44-34.

In semifinals Friday at Konawaena, Honoka'a will play Kamehameha at 3 p.m., and Ka'u will play Hawai'i Prep at 4:30 p.m.
