Kaiser, Kapolei earn top seeds for OIA Red playoffs


Kapolei and Kaiser are the top seeds from their respective divisions for the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red girls' basketball tournament.

The 12-team tournament starts with Tuesday's opening round, the only part that is single elimination. From the quarterfinals on, the tournament is double elimination.

The Western Division champion Hurricanes (12-0), West runner-up Campbell (8-4), and East co-champions Kaiser (10-2) and Farrington (10-2) draw opening-round byes. Kaiser is the East's top seed by a tie-breaker.

In Tuesday's opening round, Kahuku will visit Mililani, 'Aiea will travel to Kaimuki, Moanalua will play at Pearl City and Roosevelt will host Leilehua. All games start at 6 p.m.

The top seeds will start from Wednesday's quarterfinals.

Kaiser will take on the winner Mililani-Kahuku, Campbell will play the winner of  'Aiea-Kaimuki, Farrington will meet the winner of Pearl City-Moanalua and Kapolei will challenge the winner of Roosevelt-Leilehua. All games are at 6 p.m.

The winners advance to the semifinals, while the losers move on to the elimination bracket.

In the six-team White tournament, West champion Radford and East champion Kalani have first-round byes.

In Wednesday's opener, McKinley will visit Nanakuli and Wai'anae will travel to Kalaheo. Both games start at 6 p.m.

On Jan. 14, the winner of McKinley-Nanakuli will visit Kalani and the winner of Wai'anae-Kalaheo will play at Radford. Both games are at 6 p.m.

The White tournament also is double elimination.
