Hawaii Baptist defeated Honoka'a in three sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-19, in an opening round match of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Girls Volleyball Division II State Championships at Kalani.

Jami Grumling led the Eagles with 9 kills and 2 blocks. Tiffany Thompson had 7 kills and 3 aces, and Kayla Kawamura added 4 aces for Hawaii Baptist, who will face Roosevelt in a quarterfinal match tomorrow at Kalani. Match time is set for 7:00p.

Honoka'a's Erika Ka'awa-Akiona had a match-high 12 kills and added 2 blocks.

The Dragons will square off against fellow BIIF member Ka'u in a consolation match at 3:30p tomorrow at Kalani.
