Girls Volleyball
State tournament brackets announced


Punahou and University High have received the No. 1 seeds in the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association/New City Nissan Division I and DII Girls Volleyball State Championships.

Both state tournaments will be held Wednesday through Saturday -- the DI tournament will be played at Kamehameha-Maui and King Kekaulike in Pukalani, and the DII tournament will be played at Kalani and McKinley.

Punahou finished 18-2 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu. Maui Interscholastic League champion Kamehameha-Maui (14-0) was awarded the No. 2 seed, O'ahu Interscholastic Association champ Kahuku (13-2) is No. 3 and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Kamehameha-Hawai'i (14-2) is No. 4.

University High (14-3) won the ILH DII title. MIL DII champ Moloka'i (9-0) received the No. 2 seed, OIA White Conference champion Roosevelt (14-1) is No. 3 and BIIF DII champ Hawai'i Prep (13-0) is No. 4.

The four seeded teams in each tournament will receive first-round byes.

Here is the schedule for the first two days of each tournament:

DIVISION I

at King Kekaulike

5 p.m. -- Kaiser (11-6) vs. Moanalua (14-3)

7 p.m. -- King Kekaulike (8-6) vs. Mililani (13-4)

at Kamehameha-Maui

5 p.m. -- Castle (9-8) vs. Waiakea (15-1)

7 p.m. -- Kamehameha (18-2) vs. Pearl City (13-3)

DIVISION II

at McKinley

5 p.m. -- Leilehua (11-4) vs. Seabury Hall (7-4)

7 p.m. -- Kalaheo (12-3) vs. Waimea (12-1)

at Kalani

5 p.m. -- Ka'u (10-7) vs. St. Francis (10-8)

7 p.m. -- Hawai'i Baptist (11-7) vs. Honoka'a (10-3)


THURSDAY

DIVISION I

at King Kekaulike

5 p.m. -- No. 4 Kamehameha-Hawai'i (14-2) vs. Kaiser/Moanalua winner

7 p.m. -- No. 1 Punahou (18-2) vs. King Kekaulike/Mililani winner

at Kamehameha-Maui

5 p.m. -- No. 3 Kahuku (13-2) vs. Kamehameha/Pearl City winner

7 p.m. -- No. 2 Kamehameha-Maui (14-0) vs. Castle/Waiakea winner

NOTE: Semifinals will be played at 7 p.m. Friday at both sites; Championship match will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at King Kekaulike
