Kapolei capped its preseason slate with a 35-0 shutout of Kapaa, as its defense held the Warriors to just 54 yards of total offense and its special teams added to the point tally in a three-phase win.

Jacob Ballesteros was 14 of 17 passing with 169 yards and two touchdowns, and Chazz Michael Kupahu added two more scores as the offense set the tone with 21 points in the first half, and 35 through three quarters of play, invoking the mercy rule.

The third quarter started off with a bang, as Nikko Smith took the ensuing kickoff the other way 98 yards and the rout was on.

"That was a really good play by Nikko, great blocks up front and any time we get special teams scores that's just great momentum and to light up the crowd," remarked Rylen Para of the play to open the second half.

Kapaa's best chance at getting back in the game came in the waning moments of the second quarter, as a sustained drive put the Warriors well inside the five yard line, but the Hurrricanes' defense stood tall, turning back four attempts at the goal line to keep the shutout intact.

"We always right and our coaches were hyping us up and making the right substitutions and changes for us, so  we just executed," said Para, who also had a game-ending interception.

Kapolei's balanced attack saw no rusher with more than five carries, led by Zeph Salis' 54 yards and no pass catcher had more the three receptions, led by Maui Remigio's two grabs for 46 yards and a score. In total, six different players caught at least two passes.
