The CJ Villanueva to Kekama Kane connection is one not unfamiliar to Raiders' fans over the years, but this one has to rank as one of the most memorable.
It came down to the final play to decide the victor in the 2025 edition of the Father Bray Memorial Football Classic, and the aforementioned duo delivered a win in dramatic fashion, courtesy of a 31 yard strike from Villanuva tro Kane for the game-ender, lifting Iolani over Radford, 36-33.
With just five seconds in regulation, Villanueva took the final snap and had just enough time in the pocket to loft a perfect arching ball towards the right side of the end zone to an in stride Kane, who secured the catch and the victory.
The duo did the majority of their damage in the second half, with Kane hauling in 10 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns, all in the second half. The three scores, from 50, 29 and 31 yards respectively, accounted for nearly two-thirds of his production on the afternoon.
As for Villanueva, he finished with 307 yards and four scores, completing 22 of 30 passes in the contest.
The late game heroics of the Raiders' pair might not have mattered without a big first half from running back Roman Fanelli, who broke off two huge scoring runs to keep Iolani in it, one from 74 yards out and the other from 50. He racked up 146 yards on just nine carries in the game.
To the visiting teams' credit, Radford did all they could and then some. Collin Murphy's pair of touichdown plunges kept the Rams in front early, and quarterback Afi Togafau did work with both his arms and his feet, throwing for 202 yards and two scores and rushing for a game-high 170 yards and another score, a one yard keeper with just 55 seconds left in the game that vaulted the Rams back ahead.
Togafau connected with Zyon-Blaze Telles-Kuwahara on a 63 yard bomb and Luke Barner on a 66 yarder on his two passing TDs.
