Some of Hawaii's top recent high school graduates will play in the fifth annual Chace Numata Senior All-Star Classic, 1:05 p.m. Friday at Les Murakami Stadium.
The annual summer classic commemorates the life of Pearl City alumnus Chace Numata, a switch-hitting catcher for the Erie (Pennsylvania) SeaWolves, the Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. Past classics have featured players who were touched by Numata when they were youths.
The teams are broken down by the Aloha Stars (composed of players mostly from the ILH and the Hawaiian Stars (mostly players from the OIA and Neighbor Islands.
Some players might get drafted in the July 13 MLB draft. Past classics have featured two projected first-round pick - Baldwin alumnus Wehiwa Aloy (Arkansas) and Saint Louis alumnus Aiva Arquette (Oregon State). Both played in the 2022 game.
State champion Saint Louis will be represented by Lincoln Pang, Chase Sutherland, Mana Heffernan and Kane Kamakanaailialoha.
There is no admission charge for the game, but spectators are being warned that there will be no concession stands open.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will help ScoringLive continue its mission to provide the best and most comprehensive coverage of high school sports in the state of Hawaii and beyond.
