Zayden Winter threw six innings of three-hit ball to help Leilehua rebound with a 7-1 win over host Waipahu in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I West baseball game Tuesday afternoon.
Winter, a junior pitcher, allowed one unearned run with four strikeouts and three walks to power the Mules (4-3) to their third win in four games while the Marauders (1-6) were dealt their third straight loss.
Leilehua's bats backed Winter's strong outing with 10 hits, including a 3-for-4 day by Blaze Manutai. Hurley Awana and Dylan Yonemori each drove in a pair of runs and Titan Pasco batted 2 for 3 from the leadoff position.
Seven different Mules recorded at least one hit, including four extra-base hits. Awana raced around the bags for a triple, while Yonemori, Ryden Sasaki and Kela Baptista each recorded a double in the win.
Waipahu was limited to just three hits in the loss. David Englar doubled, while Ryder Asuncion drew a pair of walks and scored his team's lone run.
Reece Maruyama allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
The win keeps Leilehua, which was coming off of a 5-2 loss to Mililani Saturday, in a two-way tie for second place with Pearl City, while Waipahu is in last place in the six-team division with three games to go.
Both teams return to action Saturday. The Mules will host the Chargers, while the Marauders will host first-place Mililani. First pitch for both games is slated for 3 p.m.
