East top seed Kailua advanced to the semifinals of the OIA Division I playoffs and punched its ticket to states in the process, notching a 71-42 win at home over Kapolei.

Maddox Pung led three Surfriders hitting double figures with 17 points, 11 of them coming in the first half alone, with Skylar Unten added 13 and Nainoa Hirasuma-Kenny 12 in the win.

Kailua led 19-8 after one quarter of play and put the game all but out of reach with another 19-6 spurt in the third that made it a 59-32 contest.

Kapolei was led by reserve Harrison Harris, who scored 10 points and hit two threes.

The Hurricanes can still qualify for the state tournament with a win over Campbell in a consolation bracket matchup on Feb. 10.
