Mililani bests Campbell in 2OT to win fourth straight league title

For the fourth straight season, an OIA Division I boys soccer title is heading back to Mill Vill.

Caleb Ishizaka scored the golden goal in the 4th minute of the second overtime to lift Mililani to a 2-1 win over Campbell.

"Four years in this program and I have four (titles) along with all the other seniors and its just amazing," said Ishizaka.

In the 94th minute, a lofted 50-50 ball in the 18 yard box resulted in a collision between Mililani's Kalen Toguchi and Campbell keeper Zane Wdzieczkowski in midair, one that ultimately resulted in a yellow card issued to Wdzieczkowski and a penalty kick awarded.

"That late in the game your emotions are through the roof so you got to find a way to stay composed," said Toguchi of the play. "We literally shed blood, sweat and tears for these boys, so that was the least I could do, just sacrifice my head for that."

"Our keeper came out to go for the ball, and she (the referee) thought he got the player and that's the call that was made," said Campbell head coach Lance Thompson of the play.

The ensuing PK was taken by Ishizaka, who deftly placed the ball past the keeper to end it.

"It was definitely one of my pressured PKs I've ever took, but its just repetition from there and placed it in my spot and put it in from there," said Ishizaka of the golden goal.

Ishizaka had a hand in the equalizer as well, as his throw in ultimately found the foot of Tyler Cole Tamashiro to make it a brand new game in the 48th minute.

"It was a scramble in there and he just happened to be there and just clipped it right in," said Ishizaka. "It was an amazing goal."

Tamashiro added, "Lucky for me it hit off the defender and I just got the rebound and slammed it into the back of the net."

Mililani, who had never trailed in a game all season until tonight, found itself in a 1-0 hole in the 24th minute, when Tyler Welsch found Bryson Ancheta for the game's opening score.

The Sabers, who lost a season ago in the league final to the Trojans, was once again looking to claim its first OIA boys soccer title.

Both teams will represent the OIA in the upcoming state tourney.
