Husan Longstreet had four touchdown tosses, including a game-clinching 75 yard strike to Dakorien Moore with 1:40 left to play as Team Makai outlasted Team Mauka, 28-21, in the 2024 edition of the Polynesian Bowl.
Longstreet completed 15 of 23 passes for 278 yards, and Moore had six grabs for 130 yards and two scores to pace Mauka, in a contest that was decidedly pass heavy, as Makai registered 329 yards through the air led by former Campbell star and Cal commit Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, who finished with 177 yards and a score on 12 of 17 passing.
The two teams combined for just 51 yards on 31 carries on the ground.
Longstreet to Moore's first connection made it 7-0 Makai, but Mauka tied it up just two minutes later on a Sagapolutele pass to Winston Watkins Jr. from 8 yards away.
The two teams exchanged scores once again to tie it up at 14-all, the first a Makai score to close out the first quarter from Longstreet to Dasaahn Brame and the other Watkins second TD reception of the game, this one from George MacIntrye at the 9:18 mark of the second.
Makai closed out the half with Longstreet's third passing score, this one a 21 yard score to Donovan Olugbode to make it 21-14.
With just 1:56 left in the fourth Antwann Hill Jr. completed an 11 yard pass to T. Keys to tie the contest up once again, but on the ensuing possession, it was Longstreet to Moore on the first play from scrimmage that put Makai ahead once again.
Mauka had a chance to respond with 1:10 to play, and drove the ball to the Makai 10 yard line in five plays, but Sagapolutele's sixth attempt of the drive was intercepted by Simeon Caldwell at the Makai 7, ending the threat.
Among the local contingent, Open Division champ Saint Louis saw Titan Lacaden with a reception for 12 yards and Pupu Sepulona register three total tackles and a sack for Mauka.
Madden Soliai had five solo tackles for Makai and Mana Carvalho had two solo tackles and Aiden Manutai had a tackle and a pass break up for Mauka representing Kahuku, while Damien's Sylas Alaimalo had six carries for 13 yards and Mililani's Chevy Robinson had a tackle and a QB hurry for Mauka.
