Gig Harbor used a 20-2 advantage in a pivotal third quarter to take control in a 51-41 win over Hawaii Prep in the quarterfinals of the Punahou Invitational.
Michael Masini poured in 32 points for the Tides, 20 of those coming in the second half, to lead all scorers.
The visiting squad from Washington built a 17-7 advantage after the first quarter, but saw Ka Makani rally in the second to make it just 25-20 at halftime. The aforemention 20-2 scoring spurt in the third put Gig Harbor in command with a 45-22 lead, but Ka Makani rallied in the final quarter, with a 19-6 scoring edge making the final margin just 10.
Hawaii Prep was led by Vander Eberhard with 19 points and Kingdon Simmons with nine.
In other quarterfinal action, Gonzaga Prep started off slowly but ultimately raced past Kamehameha Maui, 62-22.
A 6-2 score after the first quarter, Gonzaga Prep eventually found its feet from the second, and it outscored Kamehameha Maui in the final three quarters, including at 25-6 outburst in the final period.
The Bullpups saw every player who checked into the game score, led by Borgan Howell with 17 and Hudson Floyd with 15.
Zachary Pratt led the Warriors with seven points.
