University Lab battled past Kahuku for a closely contested 51-47 win in a quarterfinal pairing of the Merv Lopes Hoops Classic held at Farrington High School.
Three Jr. Bows scored in double figures to lead the way, with Todd McKinney and Trey Ambrozich each racking up 12 points and Alika Ahu adding 10. Guard Kenna Quitan added nine points, all via the three ball.
The Red Raiders got 31 of its 47 points from Ronin Naihe, who had a game-high 17 and Kashus Daley, who scored 14 points and two triples.
At halftime the score was 26-24 and the lead for University Lab was just a point at the end of three.
In the first quarterfinal of the evening at Farrington, Moreau Catholic rolled to a 68-34 win over Mid-Pacific.
The Mariners, hailing from Hayward, Ca. dominated from the outset, building a 22-9 advantage after the first quarter.
Moreau's Kellen Hampton had 21 points to lead all scorers. Logan Mason had 15 points for the Owls in the loss.
