Jesse Shinagawa threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead unranked Kaiser past No. 13 PAC-5 in a 30-0 rout Saturday night.
The Cougars bounced back from their loss to Roosevelt in the OIA Division II championship game a week ago to improve to 9-2 on the year. They will play Kauai next Saturday in the semifinal round of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Championships at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue.
The Wolfpack, who last played a game on Oct. 11, saw their season come to an end with a record of 6-2.
Shinagawa, a 5-foot-8, 155-pound senior, threw touchdown passes of 45 and 65 yards to Dillon Reis and Caleb Hamasaki, respectively. He closed out the scoring with his 9-yard touchdown run with 8:42 to play.
Shinagawa completed 10 of his 14 pass attempts for 165 yards and was not intercepted. He also finished as the game's leading rusher with 82 yards on 13 carries.
Kaiser got on the board a few minutes into the contest with a defensive score. Taiyo Fuji's 1-yard scoop and score gave his team an early lead it would not relinquish.
Shinagawa connected with Reis on a 45-yard scoring strike with 8:49 left in the third quarter. His 65-yard TD pass to Hamasaki capped a five-play, 85-yard scoring drive and stretched the Cougars' lead to 21-0 with 1:18 to play in the third quarter.
Two plays into the fourth quarter, Keegan Pimentel blocked a PAC-5 punt that was recovered by the kicking team in its own end zone for a safety.
PAC-5 was lmiited to 140 yards of total offense. Running back Seth Miller was bottled up for 53 yards on 12 carries and the Wolfpack's two quarterbacks finished a combined 3-of-18 passing for 73 yards and one interception.
Kaiser threw for 181 yards and ran for another 165 and was an efficient 8 of 13 on third downs.
Defensive linemen Kolt McCreadie registered seven total tackles, including six solo stops, five tackles for loss and one sack in the win.
Sean Fujimoto led PAC-5 defensively with five tackles and two sacks.
The Wolfpack, who were shut out for the first time all year, converted on 4 of 12 third downs and was 0 of 5 on fourth downs.
