Cameron Keeve had a night to remember Saturday.

The sophomore running back ran for a career-best 256 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries to power No. 12 Leilehua to a 40-13 rout of unranked Lahainaluna in a first-round game of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Division I State Championships.

The OIA-champion Mules (10-3) extended their winning streak to nine games and will face No. 8 Konawaena in a semifinal next Saturday at Julian R. Yates Field in Kealakekua.

The MIL-champion Lunas (6-5) saw their season end in the state quarterfinal round for the third consecutive year.

Keeve, who stands 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weights 155 pounds, scored on runs of 19, 2 and 21 yards in the first half and added a 71-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter. He averaged a gaudy 12.8 yards per carry and helped the Mules amass 347 yards on the ground.

Kyin Rivera-Galbraith also eclipsed the century mark with 112 yards on just eight carries. His 51-yard TD run with 5:57 left to play closed out the scoring.

Leilehua ran for 18 of its 25 total first downs. It averaged 7.9 yards per play and did not commit a turnover.

Conversely, Lahainaluna turned the ball over twice on a pair of fumbles — both of them recovered by the Mules' Gabriel Liua — which Leilehua was able to turn into 14 points. Liua's first takeaway led to Keeve's 21-yard touchdown run, which gave their team a 20-6 lead late in the first half.

Liua's second fumble recovery was cashed in by Leilehua for a 7-yard TD pass from quarterback Bennett Strobel to wideout Talon Tarpley. That score stretched the Mules' lead to 27-6 at the 8:40 mark of the third quarter.

Strobel completed 17 of his 31 pass attempts for 179 yards and was not intercepted. Tarpley tallied four catches for a game-high 60 yards. Trustin Gomes had four grabs for 33 yards, Chaystin Senas chipped in with three receptions for 32 yards and Brennan Kepaa added two catches for 43 yards.

Leilehua posted 526 total yards to overcome 104 yards in penalties on 13 infractions.

Lahainaluna finished with 249 yards of total offense, including 221 rushing. Jaeden-Ian Pascua ran for a team-high 73 yards on five carries and Ezekial Opunui carried nine times for 46 yards.

Pascua's 82-yard touchdown run with 8:13 left in the second quarter tied it at 6 before the Mules answered by scoring the next 28 points. Opunui's 15-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter accounted for the Lunas' only other score.

Maui Strong made 7 ½ tackles and had one pass break-up and Kahi Magno and Erland Pahukoa had six tackles apiece for Lahainaluna.

Ryan Tauyan recorded two of Leilehua's six tackles behind the line of scrimmage and one of their two sacks.
