Roosevelt will be making a return trip to the final four.
In a tightly-contested quarterfinal of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Division II State Championships Saturday night, Roosevelt held off a pesky Kamehameha-Hawaii squad by a score of 13-7 to move on in the six-team bracket.
The Rough Riders improved to 10-2 on the season, while the Warriors saw their year conclude at 11-2 on a gusty evening at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium.
Ioane Kamanao threw a third-quarter touchdown pass to Keawe Davis to give Roosevelt a 6-0 lead after a scoreless first half. Journey DePeralta tacked on the extra pointa and also accounted for the Rough Riders' only other points with a pair of fourth-quarter field goals.
Kamehameha-Hawaii's lone score came on an Adam Perry touchdown run that cut Roosevelt's lead to 10-7 with 8:46 remaining.
The game was a rematch of a state quarterfinal matchup a year ago, which the Rough Riders won by a score of 19-14.
Roosevelt will play No. 15 Kamehameha-Maui next Saturday at Kanaiaupuni Stadium in Pukalani.
The Rough Riders reached the state semifinals last year, but lost to eventual-champion Waimea, 13-10.
KS-Hawaii dropped to 1-9 all-time in the state tournament, while Roosevelt went to 4-4 with the win.
