Fri, Oct 4, 2024 @ Farrington [ 7:30 pm ]
Fifth-ranked Kapolei got all it wanted from number eight Farrington, trailing for nearly two quarters before rallying in the fourth to take control in a hard fought 21-10 road win.
Liatama Amisone factored into all three scores for the Hurricanes, including a go-ahead three yard keeper at the 9:47 mark of the fourth and a game-sealing 25 yard jaunt with just under three minutes in regulation. He finished with a 157 yards rushing on 21 carries, both game-highs, breaking the 150 yard mark for the second time this season.
The Govs defense played well, limiting Amisone to just 80 yards passing and picking him off twice, the lowest output for him as a passer since Oct. 7, 2023 against Mililani, where he completed just 7 of 23 attempts for 49 yards and threw three interceptions.
Kapolei was equal to the task, holding the home team to just 183 yards of offense, and recorded six sacks, five of those courtesy of Jenisen Pave, who also had a team-high nine tackles (seven solo). The Hurricanes also had an interception and a forced fumble.
Farrington tied the game at the 8:19 mark of the second, as OL Koloi Keli recovered a Ku Ponciano fumble at the one and scooped it up for the score, then took the lead on a 38 yard field goal by Ponciano four minutes of gametime later.
That lead held until halftime and through the entire third quarter, before the Hurricanes finally broke through in the final quarter.
Everest Rodriguez and Lauititi Liufau each recorded double-digit tackles for the Govs in the loss.
