Hawaii got all it could ask for from FCS opponent Delaware State, but scored 21 unanswered points in final quarter and a half to post a 35-14 win to open its 2024 campaign.

Brayden Schager completed 17 of 34 passes for 203 yards and two scores and added a pair of rushing touchdowns for good measure to pace the Rainbow Warriors, factoring into all but one score, a 44 yard punt return for a score by Tylan Hines that closed out the first quarter.

The game's opening score was an 11 yard completion from Schager to Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala. The former Campbell standout finsihed the game with two catches for 30 yards.

Delaware State got on the board late in the second on Marqui Adams' 10 yard keeper, and tied things up early in the third on a six yard carry by Jaden Sutton.

The deadlock was broken at the 7:42 mark of the third on Schager's 15 yard rushing score, and Hawaii got some breathing room on the scoreboard when Schager found Dekel Crowdus on a 29 yard pass play that made it 28-14.

Schager's one yard keeper with 3:44 to go capped the game's scoring.

Pofele Ashlock did not factor into the scoring, but led the Rainbow Warriors in both receptions (5) and yards (81).

Next up for Hawaii is a date with Big Ten Conference member UCLA on Aug. 31.
