Kingsten Samuelu ran in four touchdowns to lead No. 5 Farrington to a 35-12 win over No. 14 Kapaa in the season opener for both teams Saturday night.
The Governors (1-0) used a balanced offensive attack against the visiting Warriors (0-1) to come out victorious in the head coaching debut of Mike Lafaele.
Farrington rallied from a touchdown deficit early in the second quarter with a string of five touchdowns before Kapaa closed out the scoring in the non-league matchup at Edward 'Skippa' Diaz Stadium at Kusunoki Field.
Samuelu got the Govs on the board with a 33-yard touchdown run with 10:20 left in the second quarter. He ran in a couple of 3-yard TD runs in a span of about five minutes in the second stanza to give his team a 21-6 lead at the half.
Samuelu added another 33-yard jaunt to the end zone near the midpoint of the third quarter and Ziggy Vea punched in a 1-yard TD run late in the third quarter to stretch Farrington's lead to 35-6.
The Govs averaged 7.1 yards per rush to negate a pair of interceptions thrown by quarterback Donny Faavi, who threw for 199 yards on 14-of-29 passing.
Kapaa was led by running back Nainoa Simmons-Kaohelaulii, who carried 33 times for 196 yards and a touchdown.
