Masao Minami batted 4 for 4 with three doubles and DJ Kauahi fired six scoreless innings of relief to lift No. 9 Kailua to a 10-1 win over Kalani Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I baseball tournament. 

The Surfriders (11-2) advance to face Moanalua in Thursday's semifinal round at Les Murakami Stadium and in the process secured one of the league's six berths in next month's Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Championships. 

The Falcons (7-7) will play Mililani in a consolation bracket game Thursday. 

Kailua fell behind after Kalani plated its lone run in the top of the first inning on a Wyatt Ishii RBI-single, but pushed across three runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back. 

Kalama Carreira's sacrifice fly allowed Kaalekahi Kuhaulua to score the tying run. The very next batter, Ryce Aoki, then tripled to right field, which scored Minami for the go-ahead run. Aoki scored to make it 3-1 on an RBI-ground out off the batt of DJ Kauahi. 

The Surfriders sent nine batters to the plate in a big fourth inning. Minami had an RBI-double that brought Kuhaulua in to score as part of the six-run frame. Minami drove Kuhaulua in once again with his third two-bagger of the game that gave his team a 10-1 lead in the sixth inning. 

Kauahi struck out five Falcons and walked one in relief of starter Jayden Hunt, who went just one inning. Kauahi registered 50 of his 85 pitches for strikes and he faced 19 batters — just one more than the minimum. He did not allow a hit and picked up the win, his first on the year. 

Joe Yamauchi started on the mound for Kalani and surrendered three runs on four hits in his two innings of work. The Falcons used five pitchers in the loss. 

Kailua, the No. 1 seed out of the Eastern Division, rebounded from a 16-6 loss in six innings to Kaiser in the regular-season finale Saturday. It had a bye in Tuesday's first round. 

Kalani saw its four-game winning streak come to an end. The East fifth-seeded Falcons can still lock up a spot in the state tournament with a win over Mililani Thursday. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Trojans' home field. 

The Surfriders will meet Moanalua in the nightcap of Thursday's semifinal doubleheader at UH-Manoa's Les Murakami Stadium.
