Pearl City is moving on in the OIA playoffs.
Led by fourteen total hits on offense, the West fifth seed Chargers led from start to finish to take down East fourth seed Kaiser, 9-3.
Jayson Au Hoy's three run shot to center field with one out in the seventh put the finishing touches on the win for Pearl City, though the Cougars did manage to get two runners in scoring position with just one out to spare before Noah Kia struck Noah Sham swnging to end it.
The visiting squad scored at least one run in each of the first four innings, and every batter in the starting lineup had at least one hit or a run scored.
Au Hoy was 2 for 4 with a run scored and four RBI, leadoff Ethan Higashionna was 3 for 4 with a run scored, starting pitcher Noah Bernal helped his own cause with a 2 for 3 day at the plate with two runs scored, and Tyler Nishimura also was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Bernal gave up a three-run inside the park home run to Caleb Hamasaki in the third, the only blemish on what was a solid day for him on the mound. He went 4 2/3 innings allowing three runs on two hits, striking out four and walking two.
Kaiser, fresh off a 16-6 mercy-rule win over Kailua that snapped a three-game slide, could not replicate the offense it generated in that contest and saw its season come to end with a 7-6 record.
Up next for the Chargers is a quarterfinal matchup with the Aiea, with Pearl City hoping to notch a win against after falling to Na Alii in both contests this season, 7-2 on March 9 and most recently 10-5 on April 3.
