Neighbor island teams notch trio of wins in D2 opening round


 





Waimea got a hat trick from Kendra Knapp in a 4-1 win over Radford in the opening round of the Motiv8 Foundation/HHSAA Division II girls soccer state championships held at Waipio Soccer Peninsula.

Knapp scored in the 3rd minute to open up the scoring for the Menehunes, then added two more goals in the 32nd and 43rd minutes. Kendra Suga also scored for the Menehunes in the 29th minute of play.

Radford got on the board in the 61st minute on a goal by Sadie Schulz.

In other first round action, Hawaii Prep got four goals from four different players in a 4-0 win over Seabury Hall, Kapaa three goals in the first 10 minutes of the match in a 9-0 win over Farrington, and Leilehua rolled to a 13-0 win over Waialua, led by a combined nine goals by Zoe Maikai and Alexyz Nakamoto.

Play will resume tomorrow with the quarterfinal round set for 1 p.m. back at Waipio.
