KALIHI—With their backs against the wall, Damien's one-two punch delivered.

Sylas Alaimalo accounted for seven total touchdowns and AJ Tuifua accounted for four as the 14th-ranked Monarchs shredded No. 11 Iolani, 69-35, in a crucial ILH Division I contest at Farrington's Edward ‘Skippa' Diaz Stadium at Kusunoki Field Saturday.

Alaimalo rushed for 216 yards and six touchdowns on 31 carries and caught a touchdown. In the first matchup, he rushed for 20 carries for 236 and a score in their 63-56 loss on Sept. 22.

"There's nothing I can say. That kid is special. I learned my lesson from the last game and should've given him the rock more the last game. Now we have to look at film to see what we can do to get him the ball and get him in space. Let him do his thing. I love that kid, that kid comes from a great family and he was looking forward to this game. He put the team on his back," Damien coach Anthony Tuitele said.

"I give all my credit to them," Alaimalo said, crediting his offensive line. "Helping me find holes and let me do my thing and they did that today."

Tuifua completed 16 of his 19 pass attempts for 262 yards, three touchdowns, added another on the ground, and a pick as the Monarchs improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the ILH standings. He threw for 439 yards, seven touchdowns and an interception on 26-of-40 passing in the first matchup.

"With everything working in coordination with each other, they have to pick their poison. If I run the ball, they have to come down to stop the run. That's the perfect opportunity to pass the ball, we're a dual threat offense," Alaimalo said.

"Everyone learned their lesson from the last one. Just to be relaxed and play the game, don't put pressure on ourselves. Go out there and execute. For him to see that poise as a sophomore, you can see the growth. He knows he has more to work with, but I'm proud of him for what he did today. Be calm, collective and trust his teammates," Tuitele said.

CJ Villanueva threw for 341 yards on 33-of-44 passing and five scores without an interception as the Raiders fell to 5-2 overall, 4-1 in the ILH.

Like the first matchup, the Monarchs jumped out to a three-score first quarter.

Damien scored on it's opening drive on nine plays that covered 65 yards as Tuifua connected with Nalu Chinen-Zablan for a 14-yard touchdown.

AJ Kanae, Jr. recovered Keon Preusser's fumble forced by Wyatt Ho-Wiliiams and the Monarchs scored off the turnover with Alaimalo's 4-yard run.

Damien forced another fumble, this time recovered by Micah Neizmen. Six plays later, Alaimalo weaved his way en route to a 55-yard touchdown for a 19-0 lead.

"It was big for us. We were able to go up early. It brought flashbacks from the last time we played them. Making sure we continued to fight and stay on task. Continue to do our job. It was good to have those two takeaways, it was big for us," Tuitele said.

"They did their part. That what coach Bones (Tuitele) preaches. Do your job and they did that," Alaimalo.

Iolani turned it over on downs and four plays later, Damien went ahead by four scores after Alaimalo's 4-yard touchdown.

"I was able to talk to my coaches and tell them to keep the boys calm and make the boys do their job. The boys did it. They stayed in and stayed focus. They didn't get too high or too low. The goal was to continue to fight and stick together," Tuitele said.

The Raiders got on the scoreboard after Jones Vierra caught a 8-yard touchdown pass from Villanueva at the 8:22 mark.

Brody Sagawa had 10 total tackles for the game and picked off Tuifua. The Raiders scored off the turnover as Villanueva found Kekawa Kane for a 46-yard touchdown to trail, 27-14.

"Coach Bones talked about how offense should win all the games. Our offense was scoring every drive, I messed up once when I threw that interception. I threw that play in the back and moved on. The defense had my back, they gave me an opportunity to score again," Tuifua said.

The Monarchs responded with two more scores. Damien converted four first downs and Ian Sera caught a 43-yard pass that set up Alaimalo's 1-yard score. Ho-Williams made a big stop to force a turnover on downs at the Iolani 39 and two plays later, Tuifua connected with Sera for a 35-yard touchdown to make it, 41-14.

Sera caught four passes for 99 yards in the first half and finished with 111 receiving yards for the game. Chinen-Zablan added four catches for 67 yards.

"Our mentality from the half was defense get a stop, get a three-and-out and then the offense goes out and score," Tuifua said.

In the second half, the Monarchs defense forced the only punt of the game. Tuifua hit Samuel Kawakami (7 for 9 on PATs) for a 16-yard gain and tacked on extra yardage after a penalty. Alaimalo caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Tuifua to make it, 48-21.

"Every drive we go in, it's 0-0. Every time we go in we score, get the defense back on then they force a three-and-out, and we go score again," Tuifua said of keeping the foot on the pedal.

Preusser caught 11 passes for 132 yards and caught a 3-yard score in the third quarter.

Tuifua added a 3-yard keeper and Alaimalo added another 3-yard score early in the fourth quarter.

"The o-line, they're the guys. They give me opportunities to throw the ball and also give Sylas the holes to run. The offensive line was the ones for our offense," Tuifua said.

Kane finished with eight catches for 127 yards and caught his third touchdown pass from 12 yards out in the fourth quarter for Iolani's final points.

Alaimalo added his sixth rushing touchdown of the night with a 5-yard plunge.

Damien scored on 10 of their 12 offensive drives and had 13 rushing and 11 passing first downs.

Iolani was 4 of 11 on third down conversions and 2 of 5 on fourth down.

Iolani won the first matchup, 63-56 despite trailing 21-0, back on Sept. 22.

"Coming from that tough loss, it was a building block for us to get better. It was a learning lesson to help us understand their schemes and what they're going to come out today. Coach Bones talked about executing and we did that perfectly today," Alaimalo said.

The last time Damien beat Iolani, 42-35 was on Sept. 22, 2017.

Damien takes on Saint Louis II on Friday, Oct. 27 at Radford. Iolani closes the regular season out with Kamehameha II on Friday, Oct. 20.

"Our backs were against the wall. It's the mentality of win or go home. We still got Saint Louis, they won't lay down for us. That will be a hard matchup. From here on out, it won't be easy. The boys have to understand that it won't be easy. It's on us coaches to get these guys ready and on track, not getting too high. I'm happy and proud we get to live another day," Tuitele said.

Should Damien and Iolani win their respective games, a playoff game for the ILH title and state berth will be held on Friday, Nov. 3.
