Final 1 2 3 4 T
Pearl City (8-1-0) 7 7 7 728
Kaiser (5-4-0) 6 6 6 624

In a game that saw both momentum and the team leading shift early and often, it was Pearl City who came up on top, in a pulsating 28-24 win over Kaiser in both teams' league opener.

Tobias Vasquez's second touchdown grab of the night came on a perfectly floated ball off the arm of Trey Dacoscos from 19 yards out and proved to be the difference for the Chargers, but the Cougars made it way more than just interesting in the final minutes, driving the ball down to inside the 10 yard line with under 50 seconds to go.

On a third-and-goal play, it was Lennon Elder who came up with the arguably the play of the night, picking off a pass in the end zone and returning it back nearly the distance.

From there Pearl City did all it could to milk time off the clock, ultimately leaving Kaiser with enough for one final play, but quarterback Sean Connell was sacked to end the contest.

Dacoscos threw for a game-high 363 yards and four scores, two to Vasquez (108 yards on 6 rec) and one to Keaton Tomas (161 yards on 8 rec). Running back Bobby Best caught a 10 yard TD pass and added 34 yards on just two carries. He completed 23 of 43 passes but was also picked off three times.

Pearl City's aerial antics were countered by Kaiser's run game, led by a career-high 213 yard nght by Dillon Reis. Connell threw for 173 yards and ran for 70 more, but two interceptions hurt.

Cougars' wideout Keagan Lime had 110 yards receiving on nine receptions and two touchdowns in the loss.

Each team scored once in each quarter, with the home team Cougars drawing first, and the Chargers equalizing. The difference of victory ultimately came down to extra points, where Kaiser missed on all four of its atempts (two kick, two pass) while the Chargers Kahai Chang converted all four of his kicks to account for the game's final margin.
