Farrington opened up its 2023 season slate with a 44-14 win over host Radford Saturday night in a non-league matchup at John E. Velasco Stadium.
Running backs Sitani Mikaele and Ikaika Kuaana-Lacno combined for 209 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Governors (1-0) in the victory.
Mikaele, a 5-foot-10, 238-pound senior, ran for 138 yards on 19 carries and scored the game's opening TD from seven yards out two minutes into the game.
Kuaana-Lacno provided the speed in Farrington's rushing attack with 71 yards and two TDs on just seven carries. His 44-yard TD run with 10:24 remaining in the second quarter gave the Governors a commanding 30-point lead. Kuaana-Lacno also made three tackles on defense.
Farrington dominated the game from the start and scored in all three phases of the game. Lauititi Liufau scored on 20-yard fumble return for the Govs' third TD, Jacob Talamoa booted a 25-yard field goal before the end of the first half and Everest Rodriguez turned on of this two interceptions into a 35-yard pick-six 20 seconds into the second half that put the game into a running clock.
Bezeiah Togafau tossed two touchdown passes on back-to-back possessions in the second half to get Radford (0-1) back into the game before Kingston Miles ran in a 5-yard score with 17 seconds left in regulation for the final point total.
