The four-year drought is over.

Top-ranked Campbell poured in six runs in the second and stellar pitching and defense smothered No. 2 Waianae, 7-0, to win their first OIA Division I championship since 2019 at McKinley's Tiger Softball Stadium.

The Sabers completed the OIA season with a perfect 13-0 mark and shutout the Seariders (10-3) for the second time this season to add their eighth overall league title to the trophy case.

"That's them, that's all on them. We just guide them," said Campbell coach Shag Hermosura, who won titles in 2012, 2013, 2018, and 2019.

"We knew we couldn't get complacent. We would tell each other we can be beaten at any time and not to think we're going to run over everybody and come out hungry every game with the same energy," pitcher Taryn Irimata said.

Three different Sabers drove in a pair of runs led by leadoff hitter and short stop Quinn Waiki, who finished 3-for-4 at the plate. Nanea "China" Pantastico had one of the team's two doubles and two RBI and Cairah Curran went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Girls in the lineup card contributed in different ways at the plate and on the field and those cheering from the dugout.

"The bench is great. I give the bench an A plus, plus. As for each player, they stepped up and been accountable for what they do and they knew what was at stake and they really wanted it," Hermosura said.

Irimata went the distance, allowing one hit, striking out six Seariders and walking one in the win.

"It's crazy, we faced them twice this season and I pitched in both. I knew they were going to be well prepared this time around. I had to focus on hitting my spots and making sure my pitches were on. Just knowing I have defense and bats this year really helps confidence-wise it keeps our energy up," Irimata said.

Jerrell Oriana Mailo had Waianae's lone hit in the second inning with a single up the middle. Kehaulani Tambaoan-Kaeo popped out to second and Alize Tangaro-Smith struck out looking to end the inning.

"They were amped up and playing out of their limits until we as coaches talked to them and said, ‘It's another game, have fun. We get the ‘W', we get the ‘W', if we don't, we don't. But we already won because we're here. They understood that and took that to heart," Hermosura said of the team settling down.

The message was well-received.

Campbell broke open the game and never looked back. Lorraine Alo worked a 2-2 count and led off the bottom of the second with a double. Tambaoan-Kaeo forced a pop out to Jerzie Liana, who started at short stop, but Kayla Whaley singled and Leia Duropan walked to load the bases. Teiah Keliiholokai popped out to short, but Kaiana Kong walked to bring in Campbell's first run.

"That brought our energy up to stay up. That turned our heads that we got a lead and we have to keep it," Irimata said of the second inning outburst. "I know they have big bats and one swing, they could come back. Knowing we had a bigger lead, it helped me."

Waiki's two RBI single landed in left field and Curran drove in another run with a single to right that made it 4-0. Pantastico's double landed just inside the left foul line for two more runs before Alo grounded to short to end the inning.

"Quinn is an amazing hitter and player all around. I feel like when she's on, the whole team is on. She starts our rally, I feel like and I love Quinn as a leadoff hitter, she's amazing," Irimata said of Waiki.

"She's a great athlete. As the season went by and you look at players and see who fits in the hitting line up. Looking at what we had, we found a line up that we really liked," Hermosura added.

Tamabaoan-Kaeo's night was over after two innings. She scattered five hits, six runs were earned and walked two in the loss.

Liana traded places and took the circle to start the third inning. She pitched five innings, scattering five Saber hits, struck out and walked one.

"I was kinda surprised, but we were prepared for her. I was hoping we would face her. I know what our team is capable of doing," Hermosura said of facing Liana.

Since the lone hit in the second inning, Irimata and her defense made quick work of the Seariders. She struck out two of the three batters faced in the third inning and forced pop outs to Waiki and Curran in the fourth.

In the fifth, Pantastico snagged Mailo's liner and Waiki caught the next two pop flies. In the sixth, Stevens popped out at second, Irimata fanned Kaylisa-James Nakoa and Braiesey Rosa flew out deep to left field.

In the bottom sixth, Duropan grounded out to Liana and Keliiholokai walked. After Kong struck out, Waiki hit her third single and Curran drove in Keliiholokai for Campbell's final run.

Liana grounded out to second and Irimata struck out Teizsha Kaopuiki. Irimata's only blemish was walking Moani Ioane, but she followed up by fanning Mailo to end the game.

All three of Waianae's losses came at the hands of the Sabers. The Seariders made their first title game appearance since 2014 and was seeking their first title since 1983.
