MAKIKI — This one was a firework show.

Visiting Farrington outlasted Roosevelt in a 38-30 thriller at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium Friday night to secure a spot in the OIA Division I playoffs, which begins in two weeks.

The Governors got contributions across the board in their win as they improved to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.

"It was an all-out team effort," said Farrington coach Daniel Sanchez. "Helluva of a job by Roosevelt. They played a tremendous game, they kept us on our toes. It was going back and forth. Helluva of a job by coach Kui Kahooilihala and the Rough Riders."

Many ball carriers did work for Farrington in the victory as the Govs rushed for 206 yards. Junior running back Kingston Miles had the best game of his career to lead the way, churning out 109 yards with a 9-yard touchdown run on 17 carriers.

Zechariah Molitau also came up big as a versatile weapon, catching five passes for 39 yards and rushing four times for 63 yards and a 21-yard TD for the final score of the night. Ikaika Kuaana-Lacno, who was under the weather, added 25 yards and a 12-yard TD run on the Govs' first play from scrimmage.

Farrington quarterback Marcus Moreno completed 10 of 18 passes for 123 yards and one TD, his first scoring pass in over two months. Kamakana Tisalona-Perez was the top receiver for the Govs with four receptions for 80 yards and a 38-yard TD, which retook the lead in the second quarter to give Farrington a 24-22 advantage at halftime. Tisalona-Perez also recovered a fumble on offense in the end zone for the first score of the second half.

Kicker Jason Felipe was perfect on his duties, kicking five PATs and a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to trim Roosevelt's lead in the first quarter, 14-10. Everest Cole Rodririguez recovered the opening kickoff after Roosevelt muffed the catch, which led to Kuaana-Lacno's opening score. Willis Lilly also recorded the only interception of the night to help set up Farrington's first scoring drive of the second half.

"For us guys, we had to battle. It wasn't given to us," said Sanchez. "It was one of those nights where whoever kept the throttle on would win this game."

Roosevelt (2-4, 1-4) was led by senior QB Kayman Lewis in the loss. He completed 27 of 46 passes for 372 yards and four TDs against one interception.

Lewis completed passes an elite clip to start the game, converting on 12 of 14 throws in the first quarter. But the Govs made adjustments to stymie the Rough Riders' passing game. Roosevelt averaged just five completions a quarter the rest of the way with a 83-yard TD pass off a blown coverage late in the third quarter being the only explosive play of the second half.

"That quarterback, he was getting rid of the ball quickly. We had to make some adjustments at half time," said Sanchez. "We showed some different coverages and it kind of made him hold the ball a little longer than he wanted to."

Farrington will look to improve on its playoff seeding when it hosts reigning OIA D1 champ Aiea next Friday. The Rough Riders will play for pride and look to snap a three-game losing streak as they travel to Kailua next Saturday to close out the regular season.
