Chansen Smith scored the go-ahead touchdown on his 9-yard run with 66 seconds left to lift Farrington to a 21-18 win over host McMinnville (Oregon) in a non-league football game Friday night.
The Governors improved to 2-2 overall with the win and snapped a two-game losing streak.
Smith, who is listed on the Farrington roster as a sophomore wide receiver, threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Zechariah Molitau to open the scoring a few minutes into the contest. Smith completed nine of his 16 pass attempts for 120 yards and was not intercepted.
Farrington ran for 216 of its 336 total yards. Kingston Miles tallied 77 yards on 17 carries, including his 4-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, and Dayvin Malaetia added 11 carries for 63 yards.
McMinnville surged ahead, 18-14, after a couple of fourth-quarter touchdown runs, but Smith reclaimed the lead for the Govs with his late score.
Farrington will visit Waipahu Friday to open the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I regular season.
