WAIANAE - No. 4 Punahou scored early, often and in all phases to topple No. 13 Waianae, 52-7, Friday night in an inter-league prep football game at Raymond Torii Field.
Quarterback John-Keawe Sagapolutele passed for 173 yards and two touchdowns on 12-of-15 passing; running back Alai Williams rushed for two TDs; Jordan Kapisi kicked seven PATs and a 30-yard field goal; Donte Utu scored on a blocked-punt return; Alika Cavaco-Amoy scored on a fumble return on fourth down when the punter lost the ball after a heavy rush; and Alexander Yuen scored on a run.
The Buffanblu (3-0) took a 31-0 lead after the first quarter and added 21 more in the second in taking a commanding 52-0 lead at the half, setting off the mercy-rule running clock for the second half.
The Seariders (1-2, 0-1 OIA Open) scored in the final minute of the game. Quarterback Akoni Halemano ran in from 2 yards with 57 second left. Kaden Nauer booted the PAT.
Punahou's defense swarmed the Waianae offense, registering nine tackles for losses totaling 42 yards, including four sacks. Lineman Kekai Burnett had two sacks and forced a fumble and returned another fumble 12 yards.
Waianae will host Kapolei Friday night, while Punahou will travel to Kahuku on Saturday.
