MANOA—Team Leaf retained the New City Nissan Goodwill Softball Classic championship for a second-consecutive year with a 14-9 win over Team Titan at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium Sunday.

After coming up short in the state tournament at the same venue, it was redemption for first baseman Majesty Moisa (Kapolei).

"It felt like I could redeem myself and I could do better. This whole team, I got to know everyone better. I got pretty close in one week," Moisa said.

Team Leaf finished with 11 hits on the game and faced with two outs, Moisa plated Shea Higa (Kaiser) and Ailana Agbayani (Iolani) for an early 2-0 lead.

"I was just let me help my team out and let me score this run and let me get an RBI to make everyone happy," Moisa said.

Unlike some girls in the Classic who plan on extending their softball careers or just going to school, Moisa is going straight to the workforce.

"I am going to work at Pearl Harbor to be a submarine mechanic. Working on stuff, I like to put stuff together and it interested me and it's something I like to do," Moisa explained.

Jasmine Allen (Mid-Pacific) extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the second after a home run shot over the left fence. Kristy Kitabayashi (Waipahu) scored on a wild pitch and Agbayani brought in Higa again and Haley Agena with a double. Team Leaf brought in another run before Team Rogue converted a double play to end the inning, but Leaf went up, 8-0.

Team Titan got on the scoreboard after Colby McClinton (Kamehameha-Kapalama) doubled and later scored on Cierra Yamamoto's (Mililani) single to right. Paige Nakashima (Campbell) and Yamamoto were able to score off an error. Jordyn Tagudan (Kaiser) and Kaylee Matsuda (Iolani) each had RBI singles to bring Rogue within three, 8-5.

Agbayani was able to squeeze in a run in the top of the fourth and Miki-Ann Mochizuki (Pac-Five) added another in the fifth to make it, 10-5.

Titan tightened the game with a four-run inning after Torie Au (Leilehua) scored off a wild pitch. Avery Mahoe (Mid-Pacific) plated Nakashima and Tagudan followed up with a two-run home run over the left field fence to trail, 10-9 going into the sixth inning.

Leaf responded with a three-run inning of their own. Moisa brought in Jackie Kirkpatrick (Mililani) and Mochizuki brought in Moisa and Rylee Gaudia (Kamehameha) to go ahead, 13-9.

Team Leaf added an insurance run after Agbayani stole second and third and Kirkpatrick plated her for the final run of the game.

Nakashima threatened with a lead-off single, but Breli-Rylin Agbayani-Shibao (Maryknoll) flew out to center. Mahoe singled to move Nakashima to second, but Agbayani struck out Tagudan and Puakea Millbourne (Kapolei) flew out to center to end the game.

Team Ariya holds off Team Rogue to win third place

Team Ariya made its debut with a 7-4 win to capture third place. Ariya is named after the Nissan Ariya, an all-electric crossover SUV that will come out later this year.

The game was scoreless for the first four innings before Ariya broke it open with seven runs. Brooklyn Alejo (Iolani) stole home to kickstart the scoring. Taysia Takekawa (Castle) plated Keilin Brunn (Sacred Hearts Academy) and Chloe Chun (Maryknoll) drove in two more runs before Mackenzie Kila (Mililani) added another for a 7-0 lead.

Makena Nera (Maryknoll) helped Rogue get on the scoreboard by bringing in Makanalei Lapera (Punahou).

Rogue rallied in the seventh with three runs after Carys Murakami (Maryknoll) drove in Lexi Oshiro (Kaiser). Despite facing two outs, Lapera brought in Murakami and Ellie Ishikawa (Kapolei) was able to score off a wild pitch. Ariya got the final out to end a dramatic comeback.
