No. 3 Maryknoll rallied in the fourth quarter and outlasted No. 5 Kamehameha-Kapalama, 49-43 in overtime to wrap up the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I regular season at the Clarence T. C. Ching Gymnasium Saturday.

Parker Grant led a balanced scoring effort with 10 points as the Spartans improved to 8-4. Seeding for the postseason tournament will be determined depending on the Iolani/Punahou outcome.

"The Saint Louis game and this game, it's starting to click and we're coming together and playing as a team. The bond is coming and the chemistry is there," Parker Grant said.

Despite a big 22 point performance from EJ Kapihe, the Warriors dropped their fourth-straight game to fall to 5-7 and will be the fifth seed in the postseason tournament starting next week Tuesday.

"That's what I love about how the ILH is set up. There's a chance we can qualify for states and who knows from there," Kamehameha coach Larry Park said.

Kamehameha led, 37-33 to open the fourth quarter until Fabian Camacho scored four straight points to tie the game at 37. Kapihe broke the tie with a shot as he was falling down. Zion Bruce split the a pair of free throws to bring the Spartans within one. Chaeston Ponteras hit both one-and-one free throws to extend the lead to 41-38 with 1:16 to go.

Payton Kahahawai-Welch and Kalai Smith each missed the front end of the one-and-one that allowed Parker Grant to tie the game at 41 after he completed the three-point play.

Camacho missed an opportunity to take the lead, but Zeke Rodrigues managed to steal the ball away from Kapihe with 10.1 seconds remaining. Bruce's 3-point attempt near the top of the arch was no good as the game headed into overtime.

"During the end of regulation and during the timeout, we came together and said we have to get it done to get a shot at that state berth. We came together and it clicked. It happened the way we wanted it," Parker said.

Parker had a steal and layup for the first points of the overtime period. He went 4 for 5 from the field, collected eight rebounds and dished out five assists and had four steals.

"We try to teach them if you see a pattern, try and take it away. Parker has been hearing that from me forever. He heard and saw the play, left his defender and picked the ball," Kelly Grant said.

Kapihe answered and tied the game up at 43 with a long jumper, but those were the only points for the Warriors in overtime.

Logan Dias got to the rim for two to make it 45-43 and Rodrigues and Dias combined to make four free throws to put away the game.

Kahiau Bruhn, who scored 23 points in the first matchup, did not play because he was recovering from an ankle injury but Kapihe put the team on his back to score 13 of the team's 18 first quarter points.

"We prepared for Kahiau to be in the game and when he walks into the gym and he's not playing. We prepared a whole practice on how to defend him and all our matchups. You may think it's an advantage, but it's not. We had to read and figure out who is guarding who and they're game plan it's changed a little bit. The kids did a good job with the adjustments," Kelly Grant said.

He hit his third 3-pointer before the buzzer to give the Warriors a 18-14 edge going into the second quarter.

Kapihe played 39 minutes, shot 8 of 18 from the field and finished with five boards and five blocks.

"EJ, I couldn't ask for more from him. He plays his heart out everyday," Park said.

Kamehameha went up by as much as six after Kahahawai-Welch hit a pair of foul shots but Maryknoll would eventually get within one after a 3-pointer from Jaren Kaneshiro. Kapihe drove left and laid it up well before the buzzer to give the Warriors a 26-23 at halftime.

"That's our guys, they play hard and together. We had a great week of practice. We are continuing to improve we've hit a rough patch in terms of wins and losses," Park said.

Justin Yap hit his first 3-pointer to tie the game at 26, but Christian Togiai answered with a triple of his own. Yap hit his second 3 in the quarter to bring the Spartans within one, but Kahahawai-Welch hit a drive in the lane and Reyn Asato nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing to put Kamehameha up, 35-29.

Kalai Smith kept the lead at six with a baseline drive, but Bruce added a field goal as Maryknoll trailed, 37-33 going into the fourth.

Maryknoll as a team shot 10 for 11 from the free throw line while Kamehameha went 7 for 12.

Kamehameha beat Maryknoll, 50-47, on Jan. 25.
