WAIANAE - Jason Mariteragi passed for 228 yards and four touchdowns and No. 3 Kahuku romped No. 9 Waianae, 50-7, Saturday night at Raymond Torii Field.
The Red Raiders improved to 4-0 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Open Division and close out the season with the division's other unbeaten teams: Mililani (Nov. 13) and Campbell (Nov. 27). Both are 3-0.
Three of Mariteragi's TD passes were to Liona Lefau, who had four receptions for 95 yards. Lefau had TD catches of 20, 10 and 25 yards. Mariteragi rebounded quickly after his first pass of the game was intercepted by Curtis Jackson. Mariteragi completed 15 of 27 passes. His other TD pass was for 25 yards to Kingsley Ah You.
The Red Raiders' defense contained the Seariders (1-3) to 67 yards. Kahuku registered eight sacks, two apiece by Leonard Ah You, Stansyn Pula and Isaiah Tuliloa, and one each by Kruze Keanu and Lesu Damuni.
Kahuku took a 7-0 lead on Mariteragi's 20-yard TD pass to Lefau. But Waianae struck back on its ensuing series, scoring on a 24-yard TD pass from Tarent Moniz-Batt to Akoni Halemano to tie the game at 7 after Joshua Santiago's PAT.
Kahuku would score on its next four possessions in taking a 36-7 lead into the half.
The Red Raiders scored on their first series of the second half to make it 43-7 and started the running clock. All of Waianae's losses have ended with a running clock. Kahuku added another TD later in the third that made it 50-7.
Running back Kana Loa Kaluna rushed for 50 yards, including TD runs of 5 and 2 yards. Clyde Talaupapa also had a rushing TD of 10 yards.
The Seariders celebrate homecoming Friday against Farrington (0-3).
