Maryknoll started the game on a 10-0 run and led wire-to-wire for a 59-42 win over visiting Kalani in the opening round of the Snapple Division I Girls Basketball Championships Monday night.

Lilly Koki scored 14 points off the bench and Serenity Moananu added 12 more to power the Spartans into the quarterfinals against third-seeded Kahuku. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. Thursday at Kalani's gymnasium.

Hallie Birdsong led Kalani in the loss with 22 points and three made 3-pointers. She also had back-to-back triples to cut Maryknoll's lead down to 34-30 with 2:29 left in the third quarter before the Spartans pulled away for the victory.
