Six players with ties to Hawaii were picked on the final day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Wednesday.
» Dylan Thomas, University of Hawaii, RHP, 13th round (389th overall) by the Minnesota Twins
» Edgar Barclay, Cal State-Bakersfield, LHP, 15th round (465) by the New York Yankees. He is the first St. Joseph alumnus (2016) to be drafted.
» Codie Paiva, Loyola Marymount, RHP, 22nd round (651) by the Miami Marlins. The 2015 Kamehameha graduate was an All-Hawaii first-team pick as a third baseman that year.
» Trayson Kubo, Stephen F. Austin, RHP, 24th round (734) by the Oakland Athletics. The 2015 Leilehua alumnus was a second-team All-Hawaii pitcher that season. He is the first Leilehua alumnus picked since Scott Loucks in 1977 (Loucks attended, but did not graduate from Leilehua).
» Micah Yonamine, Iolani '19, 29th round (870) by the Philadelphia Phillies. The Illinois State commit batted .500 and led the state with 34 RBIs. A day earlier, his classmate, Shane Sasaki, was a third-round pick by Tampa Bay. This marks the sixth time high school classmates were taken in the same draft of the year of their graduation.
» Anthony "Bubba" Hoopii-Tuionetoa, Pierce JC (Washington), RHP, 30th round (895) by the Texas Rangers. The 2018 Baldwin graduate, ScoringLive's All-Hawaii Player of the Year in 2018, was taken in the 16th round last year by Minnesota.
