Share your teams' Life matters moment

Now in its sixth year, the HawaiiUSA Life matters Award recognizes high school athletic teams that make positive changes in the life of individuals and organizations throughout Hawaii.

Special moments are shared best through stories. So tell us your Life matters experience! How is your high school team making a real difference in your community? How does it show "heart" away from the game? If selected, your athletic team will win a $1,000 contribution to your school's team or athletic department!

Two winning teams will be spotlighted for their Life matters efforts, with each team receiving $1,000. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the end of the fall and winter sport seasons.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE FALL AWARD WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH NOVEMBER 30.

2017-2018 LIFE MATTERS AWARD WINNERS

Pahoa Football

The boys on the football team have a multitude of things for their community throughout the school year, even as recently as this past Wednesday, when they cancelled their athletic banquet to help cook meals and serve food to about 300 people displaced by the ongoing lava activity on Hawaii island. Earlier in the school year they helped serve water, escort the elderly, and also handled setup and cleanup at a Women's Night Out with 1,400 in attendance. They also participated in unified sports events, playing basketball and running track with kids with special needs.

Pahoa Girls Volleyball

The girls volleyball team served as peer mentors for volleyball girls in 3rd to 8th grade, helped a local booster club with a dinner and vegan luncheon to raise $8,000 in scholarship money for Pahoa High seniors, and also put on a food drive and gave the donations away to two churches in the Pahoa community.

Both teams also joined forces with to put on a 6th grade Fun Day for students of Pahoa and Keonopoko Elementary.
